Nice Pubs & Bars
- The French Riviera is renowned for producing some of the best wines in France, and whilst in Nice you have the opportunity to sample some of the best local wines, which you will be hard presses to find anywhere else. There are many different types of pubs and bars in this stylish city renowned for its high life, however Le Master Home has to be one of the most popular. The pub is located on Rue de la Prefecture in the Vieux-Nice area, just next to the Place du Palais de Justice and the Cours Saleya. This pub has a Scottish theme, and is decked out with wood panelling throughout, and features a humorous painting on the wall depicting four Scots in mini-kilts! The pub offers an astonishing thirty types of beer, and many varieties of whisky, champagne, mixed drinks and coffee. Master Home also features a cyber-café, and regular themed nights every week, which include disco, Scandinavia, cowboys and many more. The clientele is mainly derived from the young and fashionable set, of both tourists and locals.
The place to go for a thoroughly wild time in Nice is Wayne's located on Rue de la Prefecture, in the city’s liveliest area, Vieux Nice. The pub has a wooden décor throughout and features live music, good drinks and an attractive clientele hailing from around the world. Wednesday night at Wayne's is theme night, such as Porn Night and Girls’ Night, when the ladies can drink an unlimited amount of wine and champagne for only two euros. Other Nights during the week include karaoke night and Quiz Night which takes place on Tuesdays.
Le Lafayette on Rue Gioffredo is an amazing bar, which is completely original, with the décor looking like something out of a film set. Like the store that shares its name, this bar is the height of elegance and refinement. The bar boasts two rooms on separate floors, with an ornate wooden banister on the steps running between them. In one room the walls are decked out in yellow and orange, and has a spectacular bar made from large rods, with a genuine railway track placed above it to hang glasses from. In the other room a magnificent re-enactment of an underwater world hangs above revellers’ heads, which includes divers and a Jacques Yves Cousteau style boat. An evening drinking here is a completely unique experience, and you will feel as if you have stepped into another world! One thing’s for sure, your time in Le Lafayette will certainly be a night to remember!
The Thor Pub is one of many on the Cours Saleya, and is the place to head for a more traditional pub experience. The clientele and staff here are predominantly Scandinavian, although the food and drink on offer has a more Provincial feel. There are over fifty types of beer on offer here, so there’s sure to be something for everyone, and the pub also features live music which is played here every night between 5.30 and 9pm.
For an alternative drinking venue head to Ketje on Rue Auguste-Gal in the harbour area, a truly extraordinary inn. Behind its burgundy painted wooden shop front, a warm atmosphere awaits you. There are two rooms in this establishment, the front room for those who want a more rowdy time, whilst the back room caters for patrons wanting a more intimate environment. The pub offers a huge variety of beers, including free tastings, as well as fine dishes designed to complement the beers, such as Sauerkraut or Mussels. The décor of the pub is a homage to its favourite beverage, with beer mats on the walls and bizarrely shaped beer glasses. The clientele is formed from a wide range of people, and the couple who run the pub are very accommodating, sometimes keeping the pub open well past midnight if customers are still enjoying their drinks.
