- One of the most famous eateries in Monaco has to be the Café de Paris, located within the casino complex on Place du Casino. The Art Deco exterior makes a fabulous backdrop for elegant dining, whilst the 18th century style interior echoes the charisma and style of Old Monaco. The brasserie-style menu changes according to the season, but always contains fabulous choices, such as steak tartar and fresh oysters, whilst the outdoor tables are a fantastic place to enjoy a quiet cocktail or glass of wine whilst taking in the square's afternoon bustle.
Maxim’s de Monte Carlo situated on Avenue de la Costa, is just as fabulous as its exclusive Paris parent. The sumptuous Belle Epoque interior is mixed in with some Mediterranean touches, providing an elegant setting for the fine cuisine served. The restaurant is well-known in both Paris and Monte-Carlo for its classic French dishes, service par excellence, and an expansive wine list. A particular speciality of this restaurant is the Omnibus du Midi, which is a spectacular lunch menu that blends both Italian and Provençal cuisines. Reservations for this hugely popular restaurant are a must.
Zebra Square in the Grimaldi Forum on Avenue Princesse Grace is one of the hottest places to eat in Monaco, echoing the prestige of its partners in Paris and Moscow. The name of the restaurant is clearly demonstrated with the zebra prints prominent throughout. All the rich and famous gather here, making this restaurant the place to go for some star-spotting, yet despite this the prices are still surprisingly reasonable. The restaurant has a Mediterranean feel with a contemporary edge, made up of water hyacinth chairs, pendant lights and plantation-style shutters. There is also a spectacular garden terrace, with vistas over the coastline, making for a fantastic dining experience. The à la carte menu offers many multi-cultural options, such as traditional fresh fish dishes and grills, as well as a variety of seafood and fusion recipes.
Bar et Boeuf located at Le Sporting Club, also on Avenue Princesse Grace, is not as its name suggests a bar, but a Michelin-starred restaurant by renowned chef Alain Ducasse. The name of the restaurant actually means bar (a type of sea bass) and beef, which is reflected in the marine and agrarian-themed food. The fabulous, contemporary décor was specially designed for the restaurant by the famous creator Philippe Starck. Besides the obvious sea bass and beef dishes, such as sea bass poached in a court-bouillon, served in a tian of aubergines and courgettes, and stir-fried beef served with Taggiasche olives and raw and fried spiny artichokes, there are also many other options to choose from, including many Far-Eastern dishes.
Another of Alain Ducasse’s exquisite restaurants is Le Louis XV, which is located in the stylish Hôtel de Paris on Place du Casino. The world-class chef creates a plethora of innovative masterpieces, whilst his staff treat the guests as if they were royalty, meaning that formal dress is a must at this establishment. The menu changes regularly, but delicious cuisine is always guaranteed, with the extravagant, seven-course meals a gourmet haven. Reservations for this exclusive eatery are essential and need to be made several weeks in advance to ensure a table. Edward VII was a particular fan of this establishment, with the classic crêpe suzette dessert (pancake flambéed with orange liqueur) created here during one of his visits and named after his frequent dining companion.
