  • Rome Shopping

  • Although not as famous as Milan for its shopping, Rome still has a wide range of fashion outlets and designer boutiques. All the well-known names have a branch in the capital city, including Prada, Gucci, Armani and Versace. These designer stores are found primarily on the streets such as Via dei Condotti, and Via del Babuino, that span out from Piazza di Spagna, the square featuring the Spanish Steps. The elite fashion brigade shop on these streets, which are among some of the most elegant in the city. There is also the opportunity to partake in some serious indulgence on these streets, as jewellers such as Tiffany and Co. have also made their homes here.

Via del Corso in the centre of the city is a shopper’s dream; an enormous pedestrianised street running all the way from Piazza Venezia to Piazza Popolo. This street is the playground of the rich and famous, housing shops such as Swarowski Crystal and the flagship Ferrari store. Shoppers on Via del Corso can be sure of indulging in some of the great luxury items to be found in the many stores!

Via Borgognona, also heading off Piazza di Spagna, is another high-fashion street, home to Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Fendi and Versace. Here you can indulge your fashion desires to your heart’s content, and enjoy all the wonderful offerings of the world’s top designers. The Piazza itself also hosts some famous names itself such as Missoni.

For a more affordable shopping experience head to Via Cola di Rienzo, which is known as Rome’s best street for middle-priced fashion. The street also features shops selling some of the world’s most sought-after food items, and department stores where Romans do their shopping such as COIN.

There are also many intimate boutiques in Rome, selling everything from handmade leather shoes to beautiful bags and exquisite clothes. Shops such as these can be found in Piazza Navona, and nearby Via del Governo Vecchio, which are also great places for art lovers to head to, with many private art galleries and shops selling interesting antiques.

Across the River Tiber the Trastevere area on the other side of the city has a more bohemian feel. The outdoor markets are popular with locals and tourists alike, and are a great place to go for a bargain. Viale Marconi a bit further away from the centre, is an area particularly popular with the young and fashionable set, and has scores of different style shops. The massive department store, Gruppo Clark, is one not to be missed, especially around sales time when huge reductions are to be had.

The grand Via Nazionale is also a good, reasonably priced shopping street, offering many fashion and footwear boutiques, as well as more unusual Oriental rug stores, and a luggage emporium. Frette, selling high-quality linen is one of the highlights of this street.
