- There are more than two dozen theatres in Antwerp, but the greatest among them has to be the Bourla Theater, located on Komedieplaats, a magnificently restored 19th-century building, with sweeping balconies, which is now classified as a monument. The theatre is also the home of the Koninklijke Nederlands Schouwburg (Royal Dutch-speaking Theatre) and the Youth Theatre of Antwerp. The theatre puts on both traditional and contemporary plays in the Dutch language to full houses. The theatre also contains a popular restaurant housed on its first floor, which is a regular hangout for locals.
The Vlaamse Opera (Flanders Opera) located on Frankrijklei is one of the most esteemed venues in Antwerp. Fantastic operas are played here, aimed at making opera accessible to all, and on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, hour-long chamber music concerts are also held here.

Another famous venue in Antwerp is the Koninklijk Ballet van Vlaanderen (Royal Flanders Ballet), located on Kettendijkdok-Westkaai. This company, founded in 1969, is Belgium's premier ballet ensemble and maintains its permanent base in Antwerp, as well as staging productions throughout the country. Traditional ballets such as "Don Quixote" and "Romeo and Juliet", are the mainstays of the Royal Flanders Ballet, and an evening’s viewing of this magnificent company will definitely not be forgotten.
The Raamteater op 't Zuid theatre company was established in 1978 and since 1986 it has been housed on De Vrièrestraat in the wing of an old college, near the Museum for Fine Arts. The support of sponsors and the work of volunteers have created this building into a spectacular venue with a wonderful courtyard and galleries. The company's first performance here was Shakespeare's 'Hamlet', and the theatre continues to be the scene of many a fine dramatic performance to this day.
The Provinciaal Centrum Arenberg located on Arenbergstraat, is an adaptable venue which is used for performances as varied as cabaret, ballet, and folk music. The foyer has been refurbished is an elegant 19th century style, and behind which is a small room seating 100 people which is used for various stage productions, seminars and exhibitions.
The Fakkelteater located on Hoogstraat is used by several companies and can seat up to three hundred patrons who come to see the live bands, orchestras and choirs. The venue also contains the Teatercafe for intermission refreshment, and the Kelderteater which is located in the basement and used by smaller companies to perform to audiences up to 200 people.
