It’s not a secret that I really love Asian inspired restaurants and Amsterdam has a great Japanese Michelin Star , The Yamazato, which is by the way the only Japanese Kaiseki Michelin Star restaurant in Europe. The restaurant is located at the Okura hotel, they serve Kaiseki kitchen, which actually means a traditional multicourse dinner, the techniques to prepare such dishes can only be done by highly skilled professionals. It consists of several small and very creative dishes. It is of main importance to bring out the colours of each ingredient how small it also might be and to remain its flavour or even bring it out more. When dinning at the Okura hotel you will feel relaxed and at ease, it’s a classic and very silent interior, you just feel like you are really in Japan. So the menu is a bit different then the modern Japanese kitchen, but it is a must to find out more about this classic Kaiseki structured menu. All items change with every season from the Kimono’s which the waiters are wearing until the vessels, bowls and ingredients. This is a real Japanese experience within the heart of Amsterdam.
